Yes, Kansas City Royals Fans Do Exist and We're Bitter S.O.B's

I'm 32 years old (for 2 more months) and have yet to see my beloved Kansas City Royals achieve the postseason during the entire 27 or so years I've been a fan. I hate this team. I hate everything about them (except for the jerseys and beautiful Kauffman Stadium). They suck the life out of me. But I can't quit on them. I just can't bring myself to say, "that's it, I'm going to start cheering for the Cardinals".

After 27 games, my Royals (yes, they are MINE...deal with it) were 17-10 and in first place in the American League Central Division. Fans were cautiously optimistic but enthused with the fantastic start. 27 games later, they're basically finished. The Royals current record is 23-31. So for those of you non-math majors, that's a not-so impressive 6-21 stretch to go from 1st to last.

I know what you're thinking..."who cares, it's just the Royals, do they even have fans?". Yes, they do have fans. Many of us. And we're very loyal...and VERY bitter. You can't blame us. God hates us. How else can you explain having to suffer through 28 straight years of futility? I'm always told how loyal Red Sox, Yankees, Cardinals, etc. fans are. Try supporting the most pathetic franchise in professional sports history and see how loyal you are. Try rooting for a team that never wins. Heck, the Royals haven't even been in contention beyond April (other than 2003) since 1994 (the strike shortened season).

It's a tough pill to swallow as a die-hard fan knowing my team's season is essentially over after the first month. This year, they teased me until early May. Gee, thanks for the extra week of optimism. But what is really frustrating to me is the fact that there really is no hope for the future. This team is what it's going to be for the next few years, most likely. Prior to this season, we at least had hope. That hope is gone because nearly all of the big-shot prospects the Royals had have proven to be over-hyped. Mike Moustakas and Eric Hosmer are just not good at baseball. They were supposed to be the cornerstones of this franchise for the next decade. It's time to change "Moustakas" to "Mistakas" and the "Mooooooosssee" chant to boos.

Okay, that's it. I'm done with this topic. Just typing this up is making me angry. Oh, wait...I'm an angry person anyway. Thanks Royals!
